Writing my first ever fantasy novel – Documenting the journey

A story about… well a story, and my journey to create it.

Am I crazy?

A little over a week ago I woke up from a dream with an idea for a book as clear as day in my head.

It’s not the first time it’s happened, over the years there have been many occasions where I’ve woken up and hastily typed up some notes in my phone before the memories of said dream drift away forever.

This time it was different.

I’ve long been an avid reader of epic fantasy series, and this is the first time that an idea has cropped up that aligns with everything I already love to read.

So for better or worse, I’ve decided to write a novel.

I have no previous creative writing experience, zero knowledge of book publishing and not one connection in the industry to speak of. Am I crazy? Probably.

I’m under no illusions that this could be an almost impossible task. For one I’ll be writing alongside a full-time job, and undoubtedly there’ll be plenty of lessons to learn and mistakes made along the way.

I thought it might be interesting to document a first-time writer’s journey; alas the fantasywriter.blog was born!

If no-one ever reads this then that is perfectly fine. At the very least ‘announcing’ it to the world then I will hold myself accountable to actually start writing, and I can use this space to organise my thoughts to keep me on track. In those inevitable moments where I might just want to pack it all in, I’ll be able to look back on this and hopefully be reminded of just how much progress I’ve made.

Here goes nothing…

  1. No you are not crazy. Star wars started in a dream. The brilliance and wisdom of the unconscious is meeting with you through the royal road of dreams. Listen to her, your anima. It could change your life. Wish you all the best!
